Daring Baker's Challenge for July....

I'm so sad to say that I was not able to make the seemingly delicious Hazelnut Torte that the Daring Bakers made this month. My beloved, wonderful, funny, sweet, beautiful, smart and way too young sister Audrey passed away from a hard fought battle with breast cancer on July 13. This has rocked my world more than anyone could ever have told me it would. I will miss her for the rest of my life.
Soon, very soon, I hope to get back in the kitchen.

Lesley,

I just saw your post at the DBC forum, and marveled at your lovely macarons in your avatar, so I had to check out your blog. Gorgeous, gorgeous photos, and fantastic pastry skills!

However, once I saw this entry, I had to let you know how deeply sorry I am about the passing of your sister. My sister was diagnosed with Stage 2 Hodgkin's Lymphoma back in '05, but they managed to get it all, and she just had her first baby. However, she has her first scan in 12 months coming up (due to the pregnancy, she had to stop the scans), and as usual, it brings back that awful, devastating, scary feeling, even though we 'KNOW' but hope/pray, deep down, that it will be completely clean. The '5 year-cured' mark is still 3 years away.

Now that I wrote a novel, my deepest sympathies to you and your family. Such a beautiful young woman's life taken WAY too early from us, by that horrid, despicable, disease.

Remember, now she's your angel, always protecting and watching over you and your family.
